Seemingly ordinary messages for users causing WhatsApp to crash on Android

1 Mins read

According to the latest reports, the WhatsApp instant chat app on Android suffers from sudden crashes. This happens when a seemingly ordinary message is sent to users via the app.

According to Security researcher Bandia Mayor, he noted in a tweet that the message that led to the app crash contained a link that was http://w.me/settings When you send that specific message to a WhatsApp user on Android, there will be a breakdown of the app when you receive the message.

Reports also indicate that the affected version of the WhatsApp app for Android is specifically version 2.23.10.77.

It is important to mention that the link I mentioned earlier is natural and unmined. Users usually go directly to the app settings when opening the link. However, there is an error in the WhatsApp version of Android that crashes the app when you open any conversation containing the link, and unfortunately, we don’t know the reason behind this error.

When you open the conversation containing the message, the application will be disrupted and discontinued. Therefore, if you receive this letter, you are advised not to open the said conversation. In doing so, other functions of the app will continue to operate normally, and the conversation can be completely deleted from the app without being opened.

If you cannot use the app on the phone once and for all because of the message, the user must open a WhatsApp account on the computer and delete the message from it, then it can resume using the app again on Android.

According to available data, WhatsApp is the world’s most popular conversation app, with more than 2 billion users worldwide. The Chinese WeChat app comes after about 1.2 billion users, and Facebook Messenger is ranked third with nearly 1 billion users.

It should also be noted that both WhatsApp and Messenger apps are affiliated with the US company Meta, formerly known as Facebook. An app update is expected to be issued shortly to solve this problem.
